Every day, we have to deal with others to get things done.  Where once we interacted in person, increasingly we are not sure who we're talking to, where they are, or even if they are human.  This session will look at the internet, focusing specifically on the question of how to determine who and what to trust.  Ben Goldsmith is an expert in technology and national security.  He has spent over a decade working in Washington, DC at the Departments of Justice, Homeland Security, and Defense, as well as working in the private and non-profit sectors.  Ben holds degrees in Engineering from Stanford and Public Policy from Harvard.

Join us for a fun evening with The Sea Reeds Clarinet Quartet who will demonstrate many styles of music from classical to pop, from jazz to Broadway, from ragtime and blues to Latin.  You will experience how well clarinets fit into any music genre and are one of the most versatile wind instruments.  The group was established in 2012 and is based in Rochester NH with instrumentalists Joan DeVittori, Jack Kupp, Bob Sinclair, and Jeff Smith.  Their goal is to present musical and educational outreach through concerts and educational discussions in Maine and New Hampshire.

We'll look at women in sports who have inspired the speaker to enter a career in the sports entertainment world previously dominated by a male component, what she has encountered in different areas of sports and what it is like to create and produce program content onine from a female point of view.  Samantha Cardona is from Staten Island NY and graduated from SUNY at Albany in 2014 with a major in communications and minor in journalism.  She has worked as the social media/wesite manager for a sports agency and previously covered the Rio Olympics and Pyeong Chang Olympics at NBC Sports.  She spent a season with NFL films (ending due to Covid) and produced a weekly podcast 'The Girl Who Talks Sports'.  She has also done a radio show in the New York market and has recently accepted a new assignment as a producer with NBC Sports in New Jersey.

If the only woman in science that you know is Marie Curie, then this lecture is for you.  Our speaker is the author of "Mathematics for Ladies", a collection of poems on historic women in STEM fields, forthcoming in August 2022 from the University of London.  Subjects will include Mary Anning, Virginia Apgar, Nina Karlovna Bari, James Miranda Barry, Rebecca Crumpler Honor Fell, Evelyn Boyd Granville, and Mary G. Ross.  Jessy Randall is currently the Curator of Special Collections at Colorado College.  Her poetry has appeared in Asimov's, Analog, Poetry, McSweeney's, and the Women's Review of Books.

Explore the different genres and the most popular Maine authors.  Delving into all forms of literature during a 40-year career in education, Arlene Jackson will be exploring the genres and the popular authors of Maine, looking at their lives, published works, interviews, popularity, and their influence in the world of literature.  Arlene is a seasoned York County Senior College instructor and has taught numerous courses for us, as well as for other Maine senior colleges.  The lecture will encourage questions and discussion.

From a field of amazing women born before 1900, this presentation will focus on three:  Cornelia "Flyrod" Crosby, Sportswoman and outdoor journalist, Sarah Orne Jewett, author and writing mentor, and Toy Len Goon, illiterate immigrant from China and America's Mother of the Year in 1952.  Kate Kennedy is our speaker and the author of "Skin", a memoir about her bout with melanoma, "Maine's Women", a collection of short biographies, and "End Over End", a novel.  Kate is a long-time writing teacher at Portland High School and later became a Director of the Southern Maine Writing Project, housed at USM.

Our speaker will take us on a journey focusing on the women in art in York County, beginning in 1900 with a brief glimpse at women painters of Ogunquit in the early 1900's and moving on to current women artists and the formation of art groups supportive of women in the arts.  Kathy Angel Lee is a textile/mixed media artist who specializes in landscapes, flowers and floral arrangements, fabric manipulation, and creating with her own printed fabric.  Kathy's work has been shown nationally and is in private collections in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Panama.  Her piece, "Saco Mills", is part of the permanent collection of the Saco Museum.  She has several articles published in quilting publications.  She is an active member of Maine Women in the Arts, Saco Bay Artists, The Art Guild of Kennebunk, Studio Art Quilt Associates, Maine Crafts Association, Society of Southern Maine Craftsmen, Pine Tree Quilters, and Maine Fabric Arts.
